There were sunflowers on her dress, Pacey remembers fondly, leaning out of his truck, closing his eyes, and inhaling deeply. The seasons are changing, and the fields are lit with all kinds of colors right now. Yet the bright yellow buds seem to still be his favorite, just as they had been hers. "They seem so cheery," he remembers her saying one day, walking backwards so she could keep watching him as she walked ahead of him, unable to calm her nerves to allow herself to match his slower gait. "Like nothing in the world could ever disappoint them."
He had disappointed her, he knew, but then she'd hurt him too. Tears fill his eyes when they reopen, his vision misting so badly he can barely make out the flowers. He'd hurt her so deeply, and she'd left her marks on him forever too. He wonders if she's met someone else, someone who didn't hurt her, someone who didn't disappoint her, someone who managed to cheer her up and keep her cheery, like the flowers, like she always deserved. The light changes, and Pacey drives on toward the woman who is waiting for him. Andie always deserved so much more.
